A unique scientific field trip for students of the technological programs at the Faculty of Technology and Education, Beni Suef University, to the grain silo in the Kom Abu Radi Industrial Zone.
This trip was organized to support the educational process and bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Tarek Ali, University President; Prof. Dr. Abu El-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Dr. Hamada Mohamed, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; and with the support of Prof. Dr. Mervat Refaat, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Education. The trip was supervised by Prof. Dr. Essam Hamad, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed Mohamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed Abdel-Bar, Coordinator of Technological Programs at the Faculty; and Dr. Mustafa Wagih, Coordinator of Student Activities at the Faculty.
Today, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Industrial Electronics and Control Technology Program and the Production Technology Program at the Faculty of Technology and Education, Beni Suef University, organized a field visit to the grain silo in the Kom Abu Radi Industrial Zone, belonging to the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage, in Al-Wasta, Beni Suef. The visit was supervised by Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Bar, Eng. Mohamed Bassiouni, Eng. Mohamed Mosaad, Eng. Youssef Shehata, and Eng. Mohamed Abdel-Hay.
The visit aimed to connect the theoretical and practical aspects taught in the courses "Industrial Control Elements," "Traditional Control," "Electrical Installations," and "Motor Transmission Mechanisms and Methods" for second-year students with practical industrial application. Students learned about industrial control systems in grain packaging lines, industrial control elements, PLC units, methods for controlling the speed of electric motors and conveyor belts, and pneumatic control systems for opening and closing valves. During this visit, the students learned about all the details and components of the silo unit, starting from the entry of wheat into the silo, through the purification processes, and the sensors used to control and measure the speed of the conveyor belts and to control the temperature and humidity inside the silo. This was done in the company of Eng. Ashraf Abdel-Mottaleb, Director of the Kom Abu Radi Silo, and Dr. Taha Anani, Director of Electrical Maintenance and Control at the silo. They provided a detailed explanation of the grain storage stages, the components and industrial control elements within the silo, and the methods of protection and control of motor speeds and electrical control panels. The students also learned about the SCADA control system used to control and monitor operations inside the silo, as well as the mechanical power transmission systems within the silo.
In conclusion, the college administration extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Major General Eng. Ashraf Sadek Ghazi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Holding Company for Silos and Storage. Dr. Abdel-Muttalib and Dr. Taha Anani supervised this visit to provide the college students with the opportunity to learn about modern technology in the field of grain industry and storage, and to provide them with information and practical explanations.
