A Scientific Trip to the Jabal Al-Nour Wastewater Treatment Plant to Discover the Secrets of Modern Treatment

In support of the educational process and to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Tarek Ali – University President, Prof. Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud – Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Hamada Mohamed – Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and with the support of Prof. Dr. Mervat Refaat – Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Education, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Essam Hamad – Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed Mohamed – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Head of the Civil Engineering Technology Department, and Dr. Mustafa Wagih – Student Activities Coordinator at the Faculty,
the Civil Engineering Technology Department and the Construction Technology Program organized a distinguished scientific trip to the Jabal Al-Nour Wastewater Treatment Plant – East Beni Suef, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed Mohamed – Head of the Department.

A select group of faculty members from the department supervised the students during the trip, including Dr. Ayman Sayed, Assistant Professor, and teaching assistants Mahmoud Rabie, Rania Mohamed, and Ghada Mohamed. They provided comprehensive explanations and close monitoring of the students throughout the visit.

The visit aimed to introduce the students to the latest treatment systems. The station is a state-of-the-art model that utilizes tertiary treatment with an extended aeration system and disc filters. This modern and efficient system contributes to producing high-quality water suitable for reuse, thus supporting sustainable development and water resource conservation.

During the visit, the operational stages of the system were explained in detail, beginning with:
1- Wastewater entering the station.

2- Removal of solids and sand to protect the treatment units.

3- Extended aeration stage, a biological treatment that relies on microorganisms to purify the water.

4- Secondary sedimentation to separate sludge from the treated water. 5- Using disc filters to enhance purification efficiency and remove even the finest suspended particles.

6- Sterilization to ensure the elimination of harmful microorganisms.

7- The result is highly purified treated water, suitable for reuse in various applications.

The college extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Engineer Atef Mahdi, Head of the National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitation Projects, for his warm welcome and fruitful cooperation. Thanks are also due to Engineers Mohamed Taha, Ahmed Abdel Aziz, and Ahmed Shehata for their excellent presentations, which enriched the students' experience and deepened their practical understanding.

The college affirms its ongoing commitment to organizing such scientific visits, which enhance students' skills and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thus fulfilling the university's vision of preparing distinguished graduates capable of innovation and active participation in development projects.
